product description:

The Amprobe ACD-3400 digital clamp meter is a true RMS (root mean square) sensing, auto- or manual-ranging multimeter for measuring current, voltage, capacitance, resistance, frequency, and duty cycles in electrical testing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications. It has a clamp that measures alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) to 1,000 amp. The meter comes with detachable test leads that measure DC voltage to 1,000 volts (V), AC voltage to 750V, capacitance to 6.6 millifarads, resistance to 66 megaohms, frequency to 1 megahertz (MHz), and duty cycles up to 95%. The clamp has two jaws that can close around a conductor up to 2" (57 mm) in diameter to measure current or frequency without touching or interrupting the circuit. The relative zero mode stores a reading in memory to use as a zero point for subsequent readings, allowing quick comparison of multiple readings. The peak + or - function records peak positive or negative values for AC current and AC voltage. The maximum or minimum reading mode displays the highest or lowest reading in a session to track a sudden increase or decrease in readings. It has a liquid crystal display (LCD) that shows readings both in digits and on a 66-segment bar graph. The LCD is backlit for visibility in low light. An audible continuity sensor confirms that the circuit conducts electricity, and a diode test detects whether a circuit’s diodes are working properly. The hold function keeps the reading on the display, even after the meter is disconnected. The unit automatically turns off after 30 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life, and a low-battery indicator signals when the meter s batteries need to be replaced. A finger guard on the body of the meter helps protect fingers from shock.

This true RMS (root mean square) sensing meter provides accurate readings when measuring linear loads, such as standard induction motors and incandescent lights, where the current or voltage has a sinusoidal waveform, or non-linear loads, such as electronic devices or motors, where the current or voltage has a sinusoidal non-sinusoidal waveform. Two ranging modes (auto or manual) offer a range of operator control when taking readings. When turned on, the meter will be in auto-ranging mode and automatically selects select the correct operating range for the property being measured. It can be switched to manual-ranging mode, which requires that the operator choose the appropriate operating range. The meter has a 6,600-count resolution, meaning it can display up to 6,599 units (3-3/4 digits) before the operating range needs to be changed. It meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010 and is certified for category III installations up to 1,000V, which covers items used with enclosed building circuit installations (service panel parts, branch circuits, and fixed installations that are connected directly to a building s AC power supply), and category IV installations up to 1,000V, which covers measurements at the source of the low-voltage supply, such as electricity meters and overcurrent protection devices. The unit comes with a soft vinyl carrying case.

Clamp meters (also called clamp-on meters) measure electrical current without cutting through wires or touching or interrupting the electrical circuit. Available in handheld or benchtop models, clamp meters diagnose problems in electrical equipment, wiring, and power supplies. The meter s current clamp has two jaws that fit around a conductor to take measurements. All clamp meters test for current. Some come with test leads and inputs for measuring voltage, capacitance, and resistance. They display information either in analog or digital form. Factors that influence meter choice include the electrical properties to be measured, the anticipated range of results, and the desired level of protection against transient voltages determine meter choice. Safety ratings are based on the International Electrotechnical Commission s (IEC) standards for low-voltage test equipment. IEC 61010 delineates four overvoltage installation categories. In general, a meter with a category IV rating will provide more protection against transient voltages than a meter with a lower category rating.

Amprobe manufactures electrical testing equipment for commercial, industrial, and home use. The company was founded in 1948 and is headquartered in Everett, WA.
