The Big Dog M16-14SFG from Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT) is a hefty, full-size tactical knife with a dual grind modified Tanto-style blade. The one-hand opening and closing is quick and smooth, the result of lubrous washers at the blade pivot. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered surface provides instant access in any circumstance. The blade, frame, and hardware are finished non-reflective tactical black. The blade receives a black titanium nitride coating for maximum corrosion resistance.
It also features a super rigid InterFrame build with 420J2 stainless steel liners and threaded stainless steel back spacers. This tactical SF model also features two Carson Flippers, resulting in a true hilt when the blade is opened.
Designed by the military for special forces use, the knives in this series are equipped with clip options that allow four-position carry on belts or webbing. They are not designed for tip-up in-pocket carry.
Kit Carson, designer of the M16 Series, became famous for his titanium frame M16 customs. True to Kit s custom design in all details, the production M16 models have been taken a step further with the addition of CRKT s exclusive patented AutoLAWKS safety, which automatically turns the folders into virtual fixed blades when the blade is opened and locked.
An automatic safety mechanism for folding knives, AutoLAWKS was invented by Columbia River Knife & Tool as an enhancement to Ron Lake and Michael Walker s design to prevent the locking liner from accidentally releasing when the knife is open and locked. As the folder blade is locked in place by the locking liner, the spring-loaded AutoLAWKS lever rotates forward, and the metal tang comes between the locking liner and frame to ensure that the folder is a virtual fixed blade. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to accidentally release the liner lock when the AutoLAWKS lever is activated and if the blade pivot is properly adjusted.
Kit Carson of Vine Grove, Kentucky, is a retired professional soldier, rising to the level of Sergeant Major. He has made knives for 30 years and has been a full-time knifemaker since 1993.
